Council confirms appointments to Renaissance Arena District trustees to restart authority meetings

Middletown City Council on Sept. 16 confirmed the city manager's appointment and reappointments to the board of trustees for the Renaissance Arena District New Community Authority (NCA) and heard that the board will reconvene to continue work on the Arena District proposal.
Council approved a motion to appoint Ashley Combs to replace Nathan Cahall for the remainder of his term and reappoint her for a two-year term beginning Oct. 3, 2025; it also reappointed Evan De Brozzi and Matt Schnipke for two-year terms beginning Oct. 3, 2025. Council vote roll calls on each item returned all affirmative votes from members present; the motions passed without recorded opposition.
Jacob Schulte, appearing on behalf of the administration, said confirming the trustees is “step one” and that legal counsel will follow up to schedule the NCA meeting to consider the Arena District and proposed development. Schulte said the administrative follow-up will include reconvening the trustees and that the appointments are intended to put the board in place for those subsequent conversations.
No substantive debate occurred on the floor beyond scheduling and procedural questions; council did not take further action on project approvals during the meeting.
