The Common Council voted to approve two utility easements at Waupaca Municipal Airport on Sept. 16, granting We Energies (gas) and WPS (electric) rights to install mains across airport property to serve existing and planned hangars.
Justin (presenting for public works) said the easement exhibits are in the packet and that utilities typically install infrastructure in right-of-way via permit, but because these mains cross city-owned airport property, council approval is required. Staff said one hangar is under construction and additional hangars have been proposed; the easements are designed to provide gas and electric service for current and future hangars while protecting room for airport sewer and water needs.
Motion to approve the easements carried by voice vote. Staff will finalize easement documents and coordinate installation with the utilities.
Why it matters: the easements facilitate private hangar construction and airport infrastructure improvements by allowing necessary utility connections on city property; council approval is required when easements cross municipal-owned land.
The easement approvals were carried by council without recorded opposition.
