The Williamsburg-James City County School Board recognized the Jamestown High School Envirothon team for winning the Virginia state Envirothon competition and for placing tenth at the National Conservation Foundation (NCF) Envirothon international competition in Alberta, Canada.
A presenter listed team members — Frances Smith, Sarah Iverson, Mia Baker, Eleanor Rosie, Rebecca Elton, Amanda Mullane and Charlie Dube — and noted the team earned first place in forestry and soils, second place in aquatics and special topic, and third place in wildlife at the state competition. The presenter said the team competed against 15 other teams at the state level and 54 teams internationally, and noted that three team members had graduated in June but were recognized for their past contributions.
The recognition was ceremonial and did not require board action; it was presented as part of the meeting’s student and staff recognitions.
No subsequent agenda items tied funding or program changes to the team’s recognition during this meeting.
