Marshfield amends parking rules on East 17th Street to add north-side spaces near ice arena

The Board of Public Works voted to amend the city's traffic and parking administrative code for East Seventeenth Street, changing where parking is prohibited and where it will be allowed.

Staff member Josh Morrow presented the item and said the goal is to reconcile the administrative code with the intention that accompanied Seventeenth Street's reconstruction in 2022. The board voted to repeal six existing code entries covering portions of East Seventeenth Street from Maple to Apple (Peach) and replace them with a clearer set of restrictions.

Under the enacted changes, parking will be prohibited on the south side of East Seventeenth Street from Maple Avenue to 180 feet east of the east line of Peach Avenue. Parking will be prohibited on the north side from Maple to Cedar, and on the north side from Vine Avenue to 180 feet east of the east line of Peach. The board also specified that parking will be allowed on the north side between Cedar Avenue and Vine Avenue to provide more parking adjacent to the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.

Morrow told the board the change is not a temporary or fair-only restriction but a full-time parking regulation to improve traffic flow and sightlines for residents backing from driveways. Board member Natasha, who said she lives in the district, confirmed neighbors understood the original plan when Seventeenth Street was rebuilt and supported aligning the code with that plan.

The motion carried by voice vote. Staff did not specify an implementation date in the transcript beyond the board's approval; the administrative-code updates will be processed to reflect the newly enacted restrictions and signage adjustments were discussed as needed.
