Preparations begin for La Porte train station candlelight tour; decorations planned for early December

Members of the City of La Porte Historic Preservation Commission discussed plans for a candlelight tour at the train station, tentatively scheduled for the first weekend in December (Dec. 7–8). A commissioner said she will incorporate a donated Christmas village scene into the station display and will coordinate measurements and a decorating schedule with city staff.

The commission discussed access logistics and cleaning: members asked whether the building will be cleaned before decorating and whether the commission will be given keys or will need to be let in for each visit. One commissioner said she prefers to decorate the week before the event and asked for a time to coordinate with Annette Leffler to gain access. No formal vote was taken; members said they will coordinate schedules and assistance as the event date approaches.

Members also discussed volunteer support and timing; one commissioner volunteered assistance and others noted commitments on related weekends. The commission expects to finalize decoration plans and volunteer roles closer to the event date.
