District advances preventive maintenance planning; volunteers, goats clear walking path and staff to spray poison-ivy roots

Facilities staff told the committee they are working with CM3 to prioritize preventive maintenance repairs across five buildings and are developing a preventive maintenance schedule for chillers and cooling towers districtwide with vendor Vine Brothers. Staff said some tasks will be prioritized as “priority 1” items while others can be completed by in-house HVAC technicians; a proposal is expected at the next committee meeting.
On landscaping, staff reported eight volunteers removed dense vegetation from a walking path between Sykes Lane and the school last week with the help of goats supplied by a local business called Happy Goat. Staff said goats cleared above-ground poison-ivy vines but roots remain; staff will apply a commercially available herbicide to roots and will post notices wherever spraying occurs.
A resident asked whether the spray is environmentally friendly and whether runoff might affect yards; staff replied the product used is the same type available at a home improvement retailer and that state-required signage will be posted when spraying occurs.
No contract awards were made during the meeting; staff said they will return with a preventive maintenance proposal to the committee at the next meeting.
