City seeks to buy four solar, cloud‑based school‑zone lights for Point Christian Academy

Director Tate told the Board of Commissioners that, following a spring traffic and school‑zone safety study, staff is seeking procurement of four solar-powered, cloud‑based school‑zone lighting units for Point Christian Academy. The devices can be set to the school speed limit and can be activated or deactivated as needed, Tate said, and the purchase will use an Omnia Partners cooperative contract.
Tate said materials and locations were marked by staff member Nate Hall and that the city budgeted for school‑zone improvements this year. He told commissioners the procurement is for two signs on Dayton Boulevard and two signs on Ashland Terrace.
Tate noted that any change to a posted speed limit would require an ordinance and that, now that Chief Seymour has returned, the city will run a recommended change through the traffic‑safety committee before bringing an ordinance to the commission. The procurement itself was presented for action on the regular meeting agenda (Resolution 25-1839).
