City legal staff explained the lease with ALDOT governs permitted uses and that the MOU is needed to place materials, including pallets of Alabama marble, in the leased underpass area. Staff said each brick (pallet piece) weighs approximately 250 pounds and that the contractor will erect temporary fencing, cover the materials and place barriers requiring a 10-foot buffer around bridge columns "so that loads of equipment won't hit the bridges." The contractor will also provide protection measures to prevent vandalism and damage while materials are stored.
The item was approved by voice vote. Staff noted the marble had been heavily discounted by the supplier; the quarry was identified as the Sylacauga area.
