Los Angeles officials joined Link Housing, the city's housing authority and county partners to celebrate the opening of Atlas Apartments, a 127‑unit affordable supportive housing community in South Los Angeles intended to house people exiting homelessness.
Council President Marqueece Harris‑Dawson and housing authority representatives described the development as part of a broader pipeline of housing set to come online in 2025. City officials said 110 vouchers have been committed to the site to help extremely low‑income households move in.
At the ribbon‑cutting several residents and new tenants told the gathering the building represented a significant change in their lives. One speaker who said they had been homeless since roughly 2005 described the new apartment as "a big relief" and thanked the organizations involved.
Housing authority staff said the city expects about 38 projects and roughly 2,000 units to come online in 2025 across Los Angeles as part of efforts to reduce homelessness. Councilmembers at the event highlighted complementary neighborhood investments, including traffic and safety improvements and new retail amenities intended to make neighborhoods more livable.
Ending: City and partner officials said Atlas Apartments is one step in a larger housing strategy and that the city will continue to bring more affordable units and services online through partnerships with nonprofit developers and county agencies.
