Ashley Callan, the county’s superior court administrator, told commissioners Tuesday the court received a grant of approximately $10,000 from a statewide group identified in the briefing as the Foundation for Washington Courts to upgrade hallway cameras and reduce security blind spots. Callan said the check has already been deposited and the funds used to pay for the upgrades, but staff failed to seek board approval before accepting the grant because of the county’s Workday transition. "We did apply for that. They did give it to us. We have the check. It's already been deposited," Callan said.
Callan told the board there were no matching funds or strings attached and asked the board to allow the county to accept and retain the funds rather than return them since the upgrades are complete and the money has been spent. Callan said the item will appear on the consent agenda next week to formalize acceptance. Commissioners asked no substantive questions during the briefing.
No formal vote was recorded at the briefing; staff indicated the ratification will appear on next week’s consent agenda for board action.
