The Jasper City Council adopted an ordinance raising municipal garbage fees to offset new landfill tipping charges. Council member Kathy Chimlish (staff member) said the residential monthly fee will increase from $19 to $22 and business container fees will rise (for example, a current $50 fee will go to $58). She said the change is necessary because the city must now pay a tipping fee to the county landfill, which previously charged no fee to the city.
Chimlish told the council the ordinance was ready for approval and that the increases would take effect Oct. 1. A council member moved to adopt the ordinance, a second was made, and the motion carried with all members saying yes.
