Jordan High baseball parents tell board field is unsafe, ask for repairs

Parents and representatives of the Jordan High School baseball program told the board during the Sept. 16 public comment period that the team’s playing field is unsafe and in need of immediate maintenance or renovation.
Carrie Boyd Peek, speaking on behalf of the Jordan baseball community, said a landscape architect who inspected the field described it as among the worst he had seen at a high school. Peek said uneven grass, clumping weeds and structural issues in the dugouts create a risk of “twisted ankles, torn ACLs” and other injuries. She asked board members to visit the field and pursue basic safety remediation rather than cosmetic upgrades.
“The grass on the field is supposed to be, in a traditional baseball field, supposed to be Bermuda grass or Kentucky rye,” Peek said. “We had a landscape architect come out and analyze our field, and he said, this is the worst field I've ever seen in a at a high school.”
She also said the warning track becomes muddy and the dugouts show cracking bricks; she provided photos to the board and offered to arrange a site visit.
Ending: Peek said Jordan’s program produces collegiate players annually and asked that the board treat repairs as a safety necessity. The board did not take immediate action during the meeting but received the materials and public request.
