The Kandiyohi County Board on Sept. 16 adopted an annual resolution establishing the solid-waste management tax market price for calendar year 2026 at $63.05 per ton.
Gary Gere, county environmental services director, explained the resolution is an annual administrative action required because the county landfill’s tipping fee is below the market rate; the resolution establishes the market price so the county pays the solid-waste portion of the tax difference.
"Ultimately, we're paying the difference between the market rate and the subsidized rate," Gere said. He confirmed a typo in the meeting packet that had shown a different figure and clarified $63.05 per ton is the correct market price to apply in 2026.
Board action: Commissioner Dale Anderson moved approval of resolution 2025-32 to set the market price at $63.05 per ton; Commissioner Corky Berg seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Implications: The action is an annual administrative calculation that affects the county’s solid-waste tax accounting and budget forecast for 2026; Gere said staff recommended approval as presented.
