Westbury board grants tenure to two educators and appoints NJROTC instructor

On Sept. 16 the Westbury Union Free School District Board of Education voted unanimously to grant tenure to two employees and to approve an appointment to the district's NJROTC program.
The board approved tenure for Melissa Corona and Janice Trinidad after the superintendent recommended both employees. Superintendent Dr. Chase praised the pair for their work with students and called the recommendation "heartfelt." "These are the type of people that we need in our school district to keep us moving," Dr. Chase said. Dr. Chase moved to bestow tenure on both employees; Vice President Floyd Ewing seconded the motion. Trustees voted aye and the motions carried unanimously.
Following the tenure votes the board approved the appointment of Nicholas Caccioppoli as the district's NJROTC senior chief instructor for the 2025-26 school year. The motion to appoint Caccioppoli was moved and seconded on the record; trustees voted aye and the appointment was approved. Board members congratulated the appointees and invited them and attendees to remain for photographs.
The tenure approvals and the NJROTC appointment were part of the public voting agenda; the board later voted to go into executive session for personnel matters and adjourned after returning from executive session.
No salary or contract terms for the appointments were read aloud during the public portion of the meeting.
