Riverton council hears updates: new Youth Council, community events and regional meetings

Council members used the Sept. 16 meeting to update colleagues about local events, committees and regional meetings. Councilwoman Rebecca Pearson Lewis announced the newly formed Riverton Youth Council, which met for the first time and will hold officer elections. She said members plan to use the city Instagram account (with city social-media guidelines) and will meet in the afternoon so students can attend after school. Council members said they'll welcome the youth council when members present to the council. Council members also reviewed upcoming community events: a "Journey Through Time" heritage walk, a ribbon-cutting for the Wyoming Historical Society's move to Riverton, a first-responders appreciation banquet on Oct. 18, and other tourism and community-planning activities. The chamber and staff noted a Visitor's Guide and business directory project targeted for completion by May 1. City staff and the mayor provided regional updates: the mayor described recent interim legislative meetings on air transportation funding and gaming revenue distribution; staff noted the Wyoming Association of Municipalities region meeting would convene in the council chambers the following day, and a joint Fremont County Association of Governments committee is continuing weekly work on ambulance funding. Council members also reported on committee work including solid waste funding requirements (noting long-term closure liabilities), airport fueling project adjustments after bids came in over budget, pavement surveys using satellite technology to reduce costs, and several street and utility projects planned or underway across the city.
