Summary
Board approved a tax rate of $0.98615 for 2025. Assistant superintendent for finance said the rate is marginally lower than the June estimate but homeowners may see an effective increase (about $70) because property appraisals rose.
The Edgewood Independent School District board voted Sept. 16 to adopt a property tax rate of $0.98615 for tax year 2025.
Assistant Superintendent for Finance Alicia Martinez told the board the rate is a nominal decrease (0.0001) from the district’s June estimate of 0.98625; however, because area property appraisals increased, the required “effective tax rate” language in the agenda reflects a 2.17% increase in taxes that property owners would pay on the same properties compared with last year. Martinez explained that the effective increase arises from higher taxable values, not a higher tax rate, and estimated the average taxpayer would see roughly a $70 increase based on current values.
Trustee Mister Espinosa moved adoption of the 0.98615 rate; Mister Delgado seconded. The motion passed in open session. Martinez reiterated that appraisals are set by the county appraisal district and that the district’s tax-rate recommendation is lower than the earlier June estimate. The board also discussed public questions about how state funding formulas interact with rising local appraisals and district revenues.
No changes to tax policy were adopted beyond the rate approval; the district will post the adopted rate and associated notices with the county as required under Texas law.
