Council approves fiber build to Purple Sage Golf Course pro shop to replace unreliable wireless

The Evanston City Council approved Resolution 25-61 authorizing acceptance of a quote from All West Communications to bring fiber-optic service to the Purple Sage Golf Course pro shop. City staff said the existing wireless link was "incredibly, kind of inconsistent and unreliable" and that the fiber will improve connectivity for pro-shop systems.
City staff member Sheets presented the quote and told the council the one-time build cost to bring fiber to the building is $2,117.76. He said the contract term is 36 months at $219.75 per month for service, with a $4.95 per-month equipment rental fee; the restaurant side of the golf course building has an option to sign up, which can help reduce the one-time build cost for the pro shop.
Council members asked whether the fiber would improve tablet or cart connectivity; staff said he was not certain how the golf-cart tablets operate but that "my understanding is that each of the tablets in the golf cart ... have some sort of cellular technology, and I think it goes back through a service ... and then through the Internet back to the building," and that improving the pro-shop connection could potentially improve overall performance. The council voted to approve Resolution 25-61; no opposition was recorded in the public transcript.
The council did not set a construction schedule in open session; staff indicated the restaurant could choose to subscribe to the service to share build costs.
