East Campus Greenway bridge reopens after early repairs; GDOT Oconee River bridge schedule delays trail underpass work

Capital projects staff told commissioners that repairs to the East Campus Greenway bridge were completed earlier than expected (around Sept. 4) and the bridge is open to users.

Todd confirmed the contractor finished repairs and reopened the bridge in early September. Commissioners welcomed the early completion and noted improved connectivity for trail users.

Staff also clarified that trail work under the North Oconee River bridge depends on the Georgia Department of Transportation's bridge replacement schedule; GDOT's website lists completion of that replacement on Dec. 30, 2026, and city trail construction underneath that bridge will begin after GDOT completes its work — likely in 2027.

No vote was required; commissioners were pleased with the East Campus bridge reopening and asked staff to continue coordinating with GDOT timelines for the Oconee bridge.
