Capital projects staff updated the commission on several trail and bridge projects.
Todd, in capital projects, said the Firefly Trail phase from Rannock Road to Moss Road is about 95% complete and that segment 1 (Hancock Road to Rannock) continues concrete work. He said staff granted construction clearance for segment 3 but that the capital projects office is still working on easement acquisitions for parcels near Oakmont. "The staff is still... working on the easement acquisitions for those parcels in Oakmont," Todd said.
Commissioners asked for more detail on the easement schedule and who at the county is managing outreach. Todd said Derek Doster in capital projects would have the easement specifics and confirmed about nine parcels were involved; staff will attempt to provide a clearer timeline.
On other projects, staff confirmed the East Campus Greenway bridge repairs were complete around Sept. 4 and the bridge is open again. Todd also clarified the GDOT North Oconee River bridge replacement has an expected completion date listed on GDOT's site of Dec. 30, 2026; trail construction underneath that bridge will follow GDOT's work and likely occur in 2027.
No formal votes occurred; commissioners requested a written update on the Firefly easement status before the next meeting.
