Councilwoman Giordano Picerno reported library and health updates at the Sept. 10 Borough Council meeting, announcing a library Hispanic Heritage celebration scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. and a range of regular children and adult programs.

She said the Board of Education held a ribbon-cutting and grand opening the prior week and that roughly 1,400 students are attending the borough’s two schools. She also noted the superintendent will hold a strategic-planning meeting on Oct. 8 in the Brearley STEM lab and encouraged resident participation.

On public health, Councilwoman Giordano Picerno said the health department received many applications for a part-time position and has begun interviews. She announced a flu-shot and bloodwork event set for Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Teresa’s, with entry through the cafeteria parking-lot doors; the clinic is free for Kenilworth residents and $20 for nonresidents. She also said free COVID test kits will be available at the event.

The council did not take formal action on these announcements; the remarks were informational and intended to publicize upcoming programs and services.
