The McLennan County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing September 2025 as Hunger Action Month and commended the Central Texas Food Bank for its regional hunger relief work.
The proclamation presented to the court said that more than 5.3 million Texans face food insecurity and that the Central Texas Food Bank provides equitable access to nutritious food across a 21-county service area, supporting more than 530,000 individuals annually through a network of nearly 250 nonprofit partners. The proclamation noted emergency response activity after July flooding and said the Food Bank delivered nearly 54 million meals last year.
A representative of the Central Texas Food Bank accepted the proclamation and told the court the organization has long served McLennan County from a facility in Travis County and expects to open a new local facility in March that will include freezer and cooler space, a commercial kitchen, volunteer space and an on-site market to serve neighbors in need. The representative said routing and distribution planning for the new facility will begin in the months before opening.
The court approved the proclamation by motion and voice vote and directed that a copy be included in the official minutes.
