The Farmington Board of Education received an update on major summer facilities work on Sept. 15, with operations staff reporting that a districtwide roof replacement project was substantially complete by the contract deadline of Aug. 15.
Sam (facilities supervisor) told the board that despite early material delivery delays, crews made up time and the district expects a final inspection with the architect and a warranty inspection by the roofing manufacturer. Staff anticipated returning in November to request formal acceptance of the project so the district can seek reimbursement.
Other completed and near‑completed projects reported included classroom painting and network wiring at Westwoods, plumbing fixture adjustments for incoming pre‑K students, new signage and landscaping at multiple schools (Irving Robbins, East Farms, Noah Wallace, West District and Union), playground surfacing and drainage repairs at Union, Westwoods and Noah Wallace, and a completed locker room and near‑complete new bleachers and press box at the football facility.
Operations staff emphasized the collaboration with the town for heavy equipment, East Farms parking loop construction, and playground surfacing work tied to playground safety inspections. Sam thanked custodial and maintenance staff for intensive summer work that included moving and cleaning furniture and preparing rooms for the school year.
Discussion vs. decision: The item was an informational update; the board did not take a separate vote to accept projects at the Sept. 15 meeting. Staff noted a future formal project acceptance and reimbursement request likely in November for the roofing project.
