Planning staff presented requests from Wilson County to abandon the city right of way for the entirety of East Lester Avenue and a segment of Rogers Avenue to accommodate the proposed Wilson County Judicial Center. Staff said the county will provide utility easements where utilities exist, place access easements where new drive aisles will be located, and must record a consolidation plat of the involved parcels including the abandonment areas.
Staff described the item as a recommendation to city council and provided expected council hearing dates: a first reading and public hearing on Nov. 4 and a second reading on Nov. 18, unless otherwise noted. The commission did not act to approve the abandonment itself; the item is being forwarded to city council for ordinance readings. Staff also noted the county will need to quitclaim the right of way abandonment areas as part of the process.
