Corte Madera — During open time on Sept. 16, resident Bob Rovazio urged the council to limit a food truck operating at Mankey Park that he said has been serving six days a week and taking parking and customers from nearby brick-and-mortar restaurants.
Rovazio said existing businesses that have invested in the area are being harmed and urged the council to make the food-truck arrangement an agenda item quickly. "They're taking up five parking spaces all day in a crowded lot," Rovazio told the council. "We should not let a truck operate there all day, six days a week."
The nut graf: Town Manager Adam Wolf told the council staff is treating the site as a pilot and is working with the truck operator to reduce hours and days and to explore alternative locations; staff member Amy Lyle has been coordinating with business owners. Wolf said the truck operator has been cooperative and the town will continue to adjust the arrangement.
Wolf said staff had worked with the truck owner to reduce hours and days and that on at least one recent day the truck did not operate. He also said the town plans a coffee cart pilot and that staff is considering other locations such as San Clemente Park. No formal council policy action was taken Sept. 16; staff suggested the matter will return to the agenda if additional policy or permit changes are needed.
Ending: The council heard the public concerns and directed staff to continue negotiations and, if needed, return with a policy or formal agenda item describing permitted hours, locations and permit conditions for food vendors.
