The Lake Travis ISD board approved proposed membership lists for the 2025–26 School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and the School Library Advisory Council (SLAC) during the Sept. 17 meeting.
Tasha presented the SHAC slate, noting the committee reviews the district wellness plan and advises on physical activity, nutrition, health, mental health and human sexuality curriculum. Tasha said the district received 102 responses to a volunteer interest request and placed 20 new members on SHAC (the district policy caps membership at 25); the administration prioritized representation across campuses and applicants who had applied multiple years. “Students are the bright spot,” Tasha said, and administrators thanked applicants and emphasized the committee’s role.
On SLAC, staff said the council was established in response to Senate Bill 13 and that the majority of members must be parents of district students and not district employees; each trustee nominates two members under the statute. Trustees moved both slates: the motion to approve the SHAC membership came from Aaron Archer with a second from Phil and passed unanimously; the SLAC membership was moved by Keeley, seconded by Phil, and also carried unanimously.
Administrators told trustees they will continue to fill other committees and seek balanced representation across campuses. The SLAC will oversee library material approval and challenge processes in compliance with state law and local policy.
