Mecklenburg County outlines HOMES property-tax relief, urges Huntersville residents to apply

Mecklenburg County Department of Community Resources staff told the Huntersville Town Board on Sept. 16 that the county's HOMES program is accepting applications to provide property-tax relief to qualifying homeowners and urged residents to apply before the program's Nov. 21 deadline.
The presentation explained who is eligible, how much assistance is available this year, and where Huntersville residents can apply or get help completing forms.
Yvonne Reed, program coordinator with the Department of Community Resources, said the HOMES program can provide up to $650 per household this year and noted an additional $534 is available to residents of Davidson through a local supplement. Reed said last year the county awarded about $4 million through the program after processing 5,429 applications, and that as of Aug. 28 the county had approved 114 applications from Huntersville households totaling $66,876.
