Jennifer Killen, Piedmont Community Charter School’s head of school, reported to the board on Sept. 16 that the school’s average daily membership (ADM) on the first day of school was 1,986 students, which the head of school described as a record. In a later enrollment update the head of school reported an as-of-Sept. 9 enrollment of 1,985 students and said registrars had been working to fill seats left by withdrawals over the summer and in the first 20 school days.
Killen told the board that staff must respond to records requests within 48 hours when students transfer, and that registrars had been completing those transfers. She also said the school submitted its Parents’ Bill of Rights policy on Sept. 2 and had no required submissions for a bond loan referenced in the packet.
The personnel report included the hiring of a high-school art teacher, Miss Megan Addington. A board member moved to approve the personnel report, another board member seconded the motion, and the board voted to approve the hire; the motion carried by voice vote and no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript.
Killen closed the administrative portion of the meeting by noting the next board meeting is Oct. 21 and that the school will hold strategic-planning sessions beginning Oct. 11 and Oct. 25 from 8 a.m. to noon at the high school.
These items were reported and approved as part of routine administration; no additional policy changes or hiring conditions were recorded in the meeting minutes presented in the transcript.
