Council approves engineering amendment to realign misaligned sewer at Briar Court Hillside project

The Kennedale City Council approved Amendment No. 1 with Westwood Professional Services to add engineering and survey design work for the Briar Court Hillside sanitary sewer improvements. City staff described an existing sewer segment that is "sitting on the bed of the creek" and "looking like a mishap to happen anytime," and recommended realigning that segment and stabilizing the creek bank to restore proper flow. The staff presenter said the original project budget was $1.1 million and that the current overall project cost estimate (OPCC) is about $900,000. Council members asked whether the change simply realigns the pipe or upsizes it; staff said the amendment is to realign and stabilize the pipe so it will not be exposed to erosion. The council approved the amendment 4-0 on a motion by Councilmember Navarres, seconded by Councilmember Glover. Staff said the amendment covers engineering and survey work and will be returned to council as required under the city's contracting and amendment processes.
