Commissioners said the extension preserves the current contract terms while parties finalize edits. County Attorney Christy Fitch noted it was prudent to set a date certain and that a key staff member (Kathy) would be back in time to review proposed changes. Commissioner comments emphasized the desire to get language right and provide stability during budget season.
Commissioner Lucas (County Manager Lucas Meyer) raised a procedural clarification during discussion; the board clarified the motion extended the existing contract term only and did not itself enact new substantive changes. The extension preserves the status quo while counsel and the county manager continue negotiations on a replacement agreement. The motion carried 3-0.
The board set the end date to Dec. 11 to align with the board’s second December meeting; commissioners asked staff and counsel to continue negotiating language and to finalize any replacement agreement before that date if possible.
