Scottsdale Gallery Association sought $125,000 to expand Gold Palette Art Walk digital advertising and programming; the Tourism Development Commission approved $75,000, the same level as the prior year, citing budget norms and staff guidance.
The Scottsdale Gallery Association requested $125,000 in Tourism Development Commission funding on Sept. 16 to expand digital advertising, geofencing and programming for the Gold Palette Art Walk series; commissioners voted to fund $75,000, the amount the program received last year. Mark Pabst, vice president of the Scottsdale Gallery Association, described the Art Walk as a long‑running Thursday‑night attraction that helps brand Scottsdale as a fine‑arts destination and draws tourists to Old Town year‑round. “It’s been a tremendous boost for the Arts District,” Pabst said. Susie Timm, who has provided PR and marketing services to the association for eight years, told commissioners that higher funding would be used for targeted digital campaigns to reach younger buyers and to build a marketing database for retargeting. She said an increased digital budget would allow the association to expand reach into feeder markets and to capture contact information for future outreach. Staff noted the association received $75,000 the prior year and that the application requested $125,000 for the upcoming season. A motion to fund the Art Walk at $75,000 was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote. Commissioners signaled support for continued partnership with Experience Scottsdale and other cultural partners and asked staff and organizers to report back with audience metrics and campaign results in future funding cycles.
