County signs recycling-host agreements, approves site-improvement grant; hazardous-waste collection scheduled

Mahoning County commissioners approved agreements with Springfield and the City of Campbell to host county drop-off recycling locations and approved a site-improvement grant to Green Township to revamp that township’s recycling drop-off site, county staff said at a commissioners meeting.

The agreements with Springfield and the City of Campbell will host the county’s drop-off recycling locations and provide ancillary services such as snow removal, county staff said. Green Township will receive a site-improvement grant for a project estimated at over $40,000, with the county assisting with $15,000 of that cost, staff said. The commissioners approved the agreements as part of the agreements package.

County recycling staff also reminded residents that the last hazardous-waste collection of the season will be Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Campbell Fairgrounds and that electronics and appliance collection will be held concurrently at the county Bent Road facility before seasonal closure; electronics collection at Bent Road will resume in April.

Discussion vs. decision: the agreements and the Green Township grant were approved by motion as part of the agreements package. The hazardous-waste and electronics-collection dates were announced by county staff during the meeting and are informational; no board vote was recorded for those announcements.

Ending: county staff said the recycling partnerships and the site-improvement grant aim to keep drop-off sites operable year-round and improve local recycling access.
