Board renames Castaic sports complex for slain Deputy Ryan M. Klinkenboomer

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to rename the Castaic Sports Complex in honor of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan M. Klinkenboomer. The motion to rename the facility passed on a 5-0 roll call vote. Supervisor Kathryn Barger introduced the motion and described Klinkenboomer’s ties to the Castaic community and his family’s long history of service to the Sheriff’s Department. “Naming this facility in his honor will ensure that generations to come will know his story, his sacrifice, and his unwavering devotion to the people of Los Angeles County,” Barger said during the board discussion. Supervisor Janice Hahn supported the motion, saying, “He dedicated his career to keeping his community safe, and I think this is a great way to honor him.” The board plans a public ceremony, coordinated with the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS), to unveil the new name. The motion was approved after the board confirmed there were no in‑person speakers registered for the item, and the remote public comment included expressions of support from community members. No related ordinances or funding actions were included with the renaming motion; the vote solely adopted the new name for the county property.
