The move clears property the county no longer needs and allows departments to complete disposition processes. Frank, a representative of the sheriff's department, presented the sheriff's list and said, "Sheriff's department has, some items they would like to be declared surplus and put out for public sale." He described the firearms and many vehicles as seized evidence or otherwise surplus and said staff would "get with, I guess, Jonathan and have them put on display, for a set day" so prospective buyers could inspect items and submit bids.
Jonathan Slater, newly promoted purchasing agent, reviewed the county inventory, saying, "The top 4 pages are from fiscal year 25, and this is what we either sold obsolete things that different departments have gotten rid of in one way or another." He identified two current-year items that need formal surplus declarations: a front-end loader for the rural solid-waste operation and a GMC Yukon assigned to accounts and budgets. Slater and other staff explained that some equipment (notably older computers) is listed as obsolete after replacements tied to Windows 11 upgrades and that a few items on the list already show a "sold" status and are being formally cleared in the records.
Committee members moved and seconded motions to declare the sheriff items and the county items surplus. The motions passed with no opposition. The committee directed staff to coordinate inspection/display logistics and to complete the surplus sale process per established county procedures.
The declarations are administrative and do not change departmental operations beyond allowing sales to proceed. The committee did not specify an exact sale date in the meeting; staff will schedule inspection and auction dates and publish notice to prospective bidders.
