Commissioner Bill Anderson told the committee that the county AgCenter fair had a good turnout this year and that county staff are working to repair the central gazebo in the center ring.
"The fair was a success mostly because mother nature didn't hurt us this year," Anderson said. He added that the gazebo "is gonna be the big thing" and staff are "getting it fixed here soon."
A committee member who serves on the University of Tennessee agriculture education advisory committee reminded farmers that the ag enhancement grant window opens Oct. 7 and said the program has awarded millions in grants. The same speaker also noted an October hazardous-waste recycling event at the AgCenter for items such as batteries (but not paint).
No funding appropriation or contract was approved during the meeting; the comments were informational and intended to remind residents and producers of upcoming deadlines and events.
