Emergency management: county completes radio cutover; generator and antenna tweaks still pending

Emergency Management told the Public Safety Committee the county completed a cutover to a new radio system on Sept. 8 and that the system has operated without major issues since the switchover. The agency reported ongoing minor adjustments to station equipment, antennas and paging and said a generator delivery has been delayed.
The EMA representative said the cutover day had been tentatively scheduled for Sept. 4 but actually occurred Sept. 8 after coordination among public-safety stakeholders. "It's been a week. We have not had any issues, major issues with the radio system," the EMA representative told the committee.
Officials said the transition required taking down the old system briefly to complete power work and that the new system is now in regular use. EMA staff described this phase as a "punch-out" period: small fixes and site tweaks remain, including adding an outdoor antenna at some sites and adjusting paging at fire halls and EMS stations.
EMA also reported a delayed delivery of a generator that was expected earlier; the office said the vendor marked the unit as shipped but the equipment had not yet arrived. The office said it will continue to track the delivery and complete remaining technical adjustments.
The committee was told EMA will begin looking at additional technology improvements now that the core radio package has been installed. EMA also announced a public weather-radio outreach event scheduled for Sept. 23 at the Lowe's parking lot and noted local media coverage of the county—s Tri-County dog team training.
Ending: EMA asked committee members to report any radio coverage or paging issues to the agency as technicians finish the final site adjustments and to expect follow-up on the delayed generator delivery.
