The Water Sector Commission on Sept. 17 approved a scope change permitting the City of Donaldsonville to reallocate $275,729.16 remaining in a Round 2 grant to electrical upgrades at the city’s main lift station and to replace pump motors.
Mayor Leroy Sullivan told commissioners that about 80% of Donaldsonville’s wastewater flows through the main lift station, which has an aging control center that is vulnerable to rain infiltration and other failures. He said the city is not requesting additional funds, only permission to shift the unspent grant balance to cover the lift station work.
Staff confirmed the request did not increase the grant amount and that no original scope items were known to be removed as part of this reallocation. Senator Jenkins moved to approve the scope change; the motion carried without objection.
Why it matters: The lift station serves a large share of the city’s wastewater flow; commissioners noted the change would keep the project moving without requiring new state dollars.
Ending: The commission approved the reallocation and asked staff to process the scope‑change paperwork so the city can proceed with procurement and construction.
