County approves another year of structural monitoring for downtown jail; amendment to go on next week's agenda

Dave Curtis, Johnson County facilities director, asked supervisors to approve an amendment with Acxiom Consultants for an additional year of structural condition monitoring at the sheriff's office and jail at 511 Capitol St. "We’ve got a year's worth of data, but a year's worth of data doesn't really tell you if it's just normal seasonal movement or if something's actually going on," Curtis said, summarizing the need to continue gauges and prism monitoring.
The amendment request covers an $8,580 extension for monitoring at the same points installed last year. Sheriff Brad Conkle told the board that a recent Acxiom memo showed one crack gauge with initial twisting and spread, underlining the importance of continued monitoring. "For the first time... they noted that one of the crack gauges has shown some initial bit of twisting and some spread," Conkle said, and supported proceeding with the amendment.
Supervisors agreed to place the amendment on the formal agenda for the next meeting so the county may continue monitoring while planning possible renovations.
