The office also reported on commercial vehicle enforcement activity in August: 20 commercial vehicle inspections, 170 total violations, 50 out‑of‑service violations and 14 trucks placed out of service. One truck inspection in Newtown/Hamptonburgh produced multiple violations including a suspended DOT number and improperly secured load.
The sheriff's office discussed a mobile “fly car” program to reduce ambulance out‑of‑service time when EMS is declined by patients, and said two more EMTs recently started school; when they graduate, the county will have five EMTs and expects to send additional candidates later in the year with a goal of possibly adding a second fly car.
A legislator noted the sheriff's office is administering an officer civil service exam that weekend with more than 400 applicants taking the test.
