Cary resident urges community support for Cary Grove Crime Stoppers

Peter Spizzeri, a Cary resident, told the Village of Cary board during the public-comment portion of the Sept. 16 meeting that Cary Grove Crime Stoppers has continued fundraising and community support since being founded in 1983.
Spizzeri said the group’s volunteers and board — led by its current president (identified in the comment as Adams) — donated more than $7,000 locally in the previous six months, including a $2,000 contribution to National Night Out and about $2,200 to local police departments for honor guard uniforms. He said Crime Stoppers has awarded more than $10,000 in scholarships to Cary Grove High School students over the decades, including $3,000 this spring. The organization’s primary fundraiser is an annual Adams McLeod golf outing, Spizzeri said.
Spizzeri asked board members and residents to help the group by reaching out to business contacts for sponsorships and by searching for the group on Facebook. His remarks were offered as public comment; the board did not take formal action during the comment.
Mayor Kownick thanked Spizzeri and the organizations he represented.
