Board approves solar projects to supply roughly half of water department power

The La Porte Board of Public Works and Safety voted to approve a solar agreement to install two ground-mounted solar arrays, designed to offset approximately 50% of electricity use for two city water facilities. The board approved the agreement during the Sept. 16 meeting.
"It will provide us with about $2,300,000 in savings including the rebate that we're going to get," Tucker King, engineering liaison for the Sustainability Commission, told the board. The arrays will serve the East plant and the Kankakee well field, the presentation said.
