The Edinburg City Council on Sept. 16 issued a proclamation recognizing the Community Inclusion Task Force, which the mayor announced in April 2023 and which has advised the city on accessibility for people with disabilities. The proclamation recorded the task force’s activities including a lunch‑and‑learn sensitivity training for city employees in November 2024 and coordination with library, cultural arts, police and fire departments on inclusion measures. Members of the task force thanked Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. and council for establishing the group and said the effort began after a resident with a disability requested improved access. Task‑force members also called for continued awareness and for sign‑language inclusion in city events; presenters noted September is Deaf Awareness Month. Council members thanked the task force and asked them to continue returning with recommendations to ensure meetings and city events are accessible.
