The Edinburg City Council on Sept. 16 voted to table a request to abandon a 1.036‑acre tract of city right‑of‑way on the west side of South Veterans Boulevard that had been requested by Melden and Hunt. A nearby resident, Carla Rodriguez, spoke during public comment to object, saying part of her property overlaps the dedicated right‑of‑way, that the area is wooded and lacks water and reliable ingress for a neighboring five‑acre parcel, and that giving the roadway away would remove a possible public access route. Planning staff told the council they had no current plans to rehabilitate the road; Rodriguez asked the council to consider improving it rather than conveying it to the applicant. Council members said tabling will allow staff to investigate the concerns and return with more information; staff indicated the item will return to council for further consideration at an October meeting. No final action was taken on the abandonment request during the Sept. 16 meeting.
