District restructures teaching‑and‑learning supervision; elementary concert and iPad changes outlined

Under the change, the district will maintain four supervisory positions but shift responsibilities from an elementary/secondary split to content‑focused supervisors who each oversee a subject across all grades. Doctor Beck, the director of teaching and learning, will retain K–12 ELA responsibilities and oversee the supervisors. The position that covers social studies, world language, music and art is vacant after a departure; the district will seek applicants for that vacancy.
The superintendent described the change as “staff neutral” (no net change in head count) and said the intent is for one supervisor to act as the steward of a curricular area across all seven schools to provide consistent oversight and reduce duplication of reporting.
The board also heard instructional‑technology committee updates. Committee members said elementary music concerts will be reorganized into grade‑level performances during the school day across one or two days to reduce after‑hours commitments and transportation burdens on teachers. The district will explore live‑streaming those performances so parents who cannot attend can view them. On device use, the committee reported that kindergarten and first‑grade students will generally keep iPads at school; parents will have an opportunity to opt in to home use later in the year.
Katie O., a teacher on assignment, was named as the temporary supervisor for English as a New Language for the remainder of the year. The district said instructional coaches and other supports will continue to assist supervisors as they assume broader K–12 responsibilities.
No formal policy changes were adopted at the meeting; the board received the reports and will review implementation progress in committee and future meetings.
