Councilmembers voted to enter a two-year contract with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health for health services in 2026–27. The mayor (speaking for administration) explained that, under the Ohio Revised Code, municipalities must either operate their own board of health or contract for services; University Heights has long contracted with the county board because it is less expensive than forming and running a separate local health department. "Every two years, we have a new contract that comes up and the pricing goes up a little bit every year, but this is in line with what we've had," the mayor said.
The mayor recommended approval so staff could include the line-item in next year's budget; he added there is time to review the contract before the end of the calendar year if council prefers more study. Council voted by roll call to authorize the two-year contract and confirmed the arrangement aligns with historical practice and state statutory options.
