The council authorized staff to advertise bids for the city’s 2025 tree maintenance and fall tree-planting programs. Alan Pennington, the service department director, told council the removal list currently includes approximately 39 trees slated for removal and the planting program anticipates about 155 new trees for tree lawns. "This year, we have approximately 39 trees slated for removal... we are looking to go out to bid for our annual tree pruning and removal contract," Pennington said.
Pennington told council the 2025 contracts will add a contractor requirement to notify property owners at least seven days before work begins. He said arborists will evaluate removal requests and the city seeks to preserve healthy canopy where feasible: "For our purpose of trying to maintain the tree canopy, if the arborist deems the tree is a tree that should not be removed, we do not remove that tree." Council voted by roll call to approve advertising for both the maintenance/removal and fall planting programs.
