San Juan County appoints Dr. Jordan Begay as public health director and local health officer

Process and recommendation The county administrator presented the public‑health board’s unanimous recommendation. Ron, the public‑health‑board chair, told the commission the board interviewed several candidates and voted to recommend Dr. Begay. County staff said four finalists were interviewed and that the board’s unanimous recommendation supported hiring Dr. Begay.
Candidate background and transition Commissioners said Dr. Begay, currently in Tuba City, has agreed to relocate to San Juan County and expected to be on site in October. Commissioners and staff thanked interim director Mike Molton for stabilizing the department during the hiring process.
Vote and formal action Commissioner Harvey moved to approve the resolution to hire Dr. Jordan Begay; the motion was seconded and carried on an affirmative roll call. The commission recorded the vote with “aye” votes to approve the hire.
Ending Dr. Begay will fill the county public‑health director position after final onboarding steps; staff will coordinate his start date and necessary transitional duties with the public‑health board and interim director.
