Council agrees to pursue rezoning and auction of small parcel at 712 Broadway

City staff told the Economic Development and Zoning Committee on Sept. 15 they intend to petition for a map amendment to rezone a consolidated city-owned parcel at 712 Broadway from B-2 commercial to R-3 single-family, declare it surplus, and dispose of it via auction.
Staff said the parcel—about 50 feet wide—was already declared surplus previously but was consolidated under a single PIN. The staff presentation said the surrounding development pattern is predominantly single-family homes and that the parcel is now more viable for a single-family lot than commercial use as a standalone property. "If it remains B-2 it is not likely to be developed at this time... The parcels are too small on their own," a staff member said.
Why it matters: rezoning and sale could allow an infill single-family home consistent with nearby development and reduce city ownership of a small, underutilized lot.
Procedure: staff said the next step is a formal petition to the Plan/Zoning Commission followed by a council vote; they asked for committee concurrence to proceed with the petition process and received agreement.
