Chief Bassett told the board the original contract was signed May 21, 2024, and the purchase will be funded from FY24 bonded funds already authorized. He said the chassis is in production and that Marion Body Works expects delivery by 2026 under the contract timeline; the town has been advised it will likely pay the chassis deposit now and the remainder as the body is manufactured and delivered. The department estimated the chassis payment portion to be roughly $509,000.
Why it matters: The apparatus replaces older equipment and follows a multi‑year equipment planning process. Selectmen heard that department staff and a review team finalized specifications through pre‑construction conferences and that the town will conduct a final inspection at Marion once the body work begins.
