WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. — The Worcester County Board of Education approved Keller Brothers Incorporated as construction manager at‑risk for the Buckingham Elementary School replacement project and authorized a contract recommendation totaling $3,075,294.
Sam Slakem, the district’s maintenance operations manager, told the board a selection committee interviewed four firms on Sept. 9 and recommended Keller Brothers based on the committee’s evaluation under standard board procurement procedures. ‘‘On behalf of the superintendent, we recommend approval of the Buckingham Elementary School construction management contract to Keller Brothers Incorporated in the amount of $3,075,294,’’ Slakem said.
Why it matters: Appointing a construction manager is the next step before detailed design and site work for the replacement school. Board members asked whether Keller Brothers has experience working on Shore projects; Slakem said the firm has a Salisbury office, has completed multiple local contracts, and is currently engaged on other Worcester‑area projects.
The board voted to approve the recommendation by motion and voice vote. District staff said the firm will provide preconstruction, construction and post‑construction services, and staff will return with contract and schedule details.
Provenance: Selection and vote were recorded during the facilities/CIP agenda items.
