Parole denied for Kevin Dibler; panel cites violent history and insufficient time served

The Louisiana Committee on Parole denied parole Sept. 16, 2025, for Kevin Dibler, who is serving a 20-year sentence, citing the seriousness of his offense and an extensive prior criminal history. Dibler, convicted of cruelty to the infirm in a case involving his elderly mother, told the panel he has participated in in-prison programming and medication management and said he had “made a total turnaround.” The warden and facility staff acknowledged Dibler has no rule violations while incarcerated, works in the facility kitchen, and has completed reentry and other classes. The Jefferson Parish ADA opposed release, noting Dibler’s pattern of violent offenses and ongoing manic episodes while in custody. Panel members noted the severity of the arrest report — including documented bruising and signs consistent with strangulation — and said they were not persuaded that the time served (about 11 years of a 20-year sentence) was sufficient. One member said, “For today, I'm gonna vote to deny your parole based upon your extensive criminal history, the violence described to the elderly.” The committee unanimously denied parole and suggested Dibler re-take cognitive/behavioral programming (Thinking for a Change) while incarcerated.
